Walking and driving instructions
The spot is roughly 10-15 minutes out of Carterton at the end of Waiohine Gorge road. The last 9km of Waiohine Gorge Road is unsealed but suitable for all vehicles (there is one stream ford en route which can be impassible after heavy rain). Watch out for sheep on the road. The waterfall can be seen from the suspension bridge on the north side. To reach the bottom of the waterfall you will need to follow the sign for river access, at the bottom of the trail walk up stream until you can’t any further (about 20m away from bottom of trail), next you will need to swim or walk through the water upstream about 10m, the waterfall is on your right. Dogs are allowed here. Many thanks to Paige McDonald (read her Travel Blog) for the waterfall's description and photos. |
