Walking and driving instructions
Korokoro Dam Waterfall is roughly a 25-30 minutes’ drive away from Wellington (with traffic could be one hr). The road surface is always sealed. From Wellington travel north on the SH-1 for roughly 6km, then turn right into the SH-2 and stay on it for the next 6.5km. From SH2 turn left into Dowse Drive and follow it for the next 2 km. On the intersection with Oakleigh St, turn left into Oakleigh St which becomes Maungaraki Rd – in 500m you’ll see a ‘Belmont Regional Park’ entrance. Turn right onto a car park, which is huge but has no facilities (no toilets). From the parking follow a walking Korokoro Dam Loop track. You can walk it in either direction. If you walk it clockwise: the first part of the track is a gentle descend. In about 30 minutes, you'll see a sign 'Cornish Street', and most likely you'll hear the waterfall. Turn left and follow the track for 2-5 minutes. You won't miss the waterfall. The waterfall is probably a handmade one, or at very least has been significantly improved by Dam builders a few years ago. Nevertheless, the waterfall is charming, and it’s a great spot for taking excellent photos. Don’t forget your photo camera! Return via the same track, or continue it as a loop. No matter which way you choose, the total walk duration will be about 1 hour. |
