Whispering Falls

Whispering Falls

Whispering Falls – actually, two waterfalls - the upper waterfall (main photo) and the lower one (the last photos on the gallery), are found at Mount Richmond Forest Park. The waterfalls look really impressive after rain.

Walking and driving instructions

Whispering Falls is roughly a 45 minutes’ drive away from Nelson. The road surface is always sealed.

From Nelson head south on the SH-6. In Hope turn left into Aniseed Valley Rd and follow it for the next 11.5 km until you reach a cap park (on your right). The car park has toilets, picnic tables and a swimming hole (quite popular among the locals).

From the parking follow a well-maintained 2-hours’ return walking Whispering Falls Track. The track goes through a private forest, follows the Hacket Creek and the Miner River, and requires 4 river crossings: first two and the last one are bridged, but the third one is a wet-shoes crossing (the bridge was washed away).
There is a big rockfall section just before the river crossing, which could be muddy and dangerous after rain. Kids must be always supervised.

Cross the river with extra care, and walk 10 more minutes until you reach the fourth bridge. Cross the stream, and you will reach the waterfalls within a couple of minutes. The lower waterfall looks more like multiple streams flowing over the green rocks. It could be slippery and muddy there, take extra care. The second (upper) waterfall is reached within 5 minutes’ further walk. The upper one is much higher and impressive after rain.
Return via the same track. Total walking time is about 2 hours.

Looking for a nice spot for your lunch? A beautiful picnic area on the top of the hill is reached within 5 minutes of further walk from the upper waterfall.

The walk is quite easy and pleasant, hence highly recommended for families with kids.
