Walking and driving instructions
Tunakohoia Waterfall is roughly a 1-hour 45-minutes' drive away from Auckland or 10-minutes' from Te Aroha (center of town). The road surface is always sealed. From Auckland head south-east towards Coromandel (SH2, then SH27), then turn left to Te Ahora. In Te Aroha head to the town center, then turn left onto the SH26 and follow it for the next 2km. Then turn right onto Tui Rd and follow it for the next 3.4km. The track starts from Tui Rd just before the gate. There are no facilities there other than track signs. From the car park follow the Tui-Domain track which is muddy, has 2 bridges and some stairs. In roughly 30-35 minutes you will see a sign 'To waterfall', turn left and follow a side track for just 2 minutes until you see the waterfall from a distance. The waterfall must be impressive, but due to wash outs on the tracks it's impossible to come closer, hence you can only see it from a distance. Please refer to the photos to check what it looks like from the track. If you're allowed to fly a drone here, you might be lucky to take good photos or capture an interesting video. Return via the same route. Total walking time is about 1 hour 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can walk this track from the Te Aroha domain. In this case it takes roughly 1 hour 45 minutes one way. |
