Walking and driving instructions
Hollyford Track Side Waterfall is roughly a 2-2.5 hours’ drive away from Te Anau or 4 hours from Queenstown. The road surface is sealed, except for the last 16 km. From Te Anau follow Milford Rd (SH-94) for first 87km (1.5hrs), then turn right into Hollyford Rd (well signposted) which is a gravel road with more or less acceptable surface, so in a good weather any vehicle can drive there (could be inaccessible during a heavy rain). There is a parking at the end of Hollyford Rd with a shelter, a table and a long-drop toilet. A well-maintained 3.5-4 hours return Hidden Falls track, which is a first part of Hollyford track, starts from the parking and goes along the Hollyford River up to the Hidden Falls Creek. The track doesn't require any significant climbing or descending. 1-1.5 hours after begging the track you'll see the waterfall on the right hand side from a bridge. The waterfall s located at about 10 meters away from the track. It can be seen from the track, but you can go up to the waterfall's base without any problems. If you're a keen tramper, you may be interested to do the whole 56km 4-5 days tramping Hollyford Track, or just stay overnight at Hidden Falls Hut (needs to be booked!). |
