Walking and driving instructions
Taheke Waterfall is roughly a 20 minutes' drive away from Whangarei. The road surface is sealed, only the last kilometer is a gravel road. In Whangarei turn right into Whareora Rd and follow it for the next 9 km, then turn right into Hoban Rd and follow it until you reach a car park (1.3 km). From the car park follow Taheke Waterfall Track which is a loop track. A short way into the track there is a viewing platform at the top of the falls. The loop track is about 3 km as far as the Kauri Grove. There is a side track, not well marked that goes to the cliff edge where Hilton Ward's photos were taken of the complete fall. This side track is closed due to Kauri dieback - please keep to the official track and don't disturb Kauri trees. Thanks a lot to Hilton Ward for the photos of the lower falls (not accessible anymore). |
