Walking and driving instructions
Te Rerekawau Falls is roughly a 30 minutes' drive away from Tauranga. The road surface is sealed becoming a gravel one for the last 1 km. From Tauranga head south-east on the SH-2, then in Kairua turn right into Welcome Bay Rd and follow it for the next 5 km. Turn left into Waitao Rd and follow it for the next 5 km. Turn left into Kaiate Falls Rd and stay on it for 1 km. Turn left to a large 'Kaiate Falls' parking. There are a few picnic tables and long-drop toilets there. A walking 1-hour' return Te Rerekawau Falls loop leads to the base of the upper waterfall, then to the lower falls. The first waterfall is a multi-step one containing 3 steps. First two steps are well visible, but the third one is hidden in the bush. The second falls is a classic 15m horsetail waterfall. The loop is a very well maintained walk containing lots of different maps, pictures, and descriptions. You'll really enjoy this walk. |
