Castle Mount Waterfalls
Castle Mount WaterfallsCastle Mount Waterfalls is a set of unofficially named waterfalls accessible on the 2nd day of the world famous Milford Track. The waterfalls start their life from a melting glacier of the Castle Mount and, probably, are seen only in late spring/summer, but during that time they are impressive.

Walking and driving instructions
There is only one way to approach these waterfalls - walk the Milford Track (only DOC individual walks and guided walks are available. DOC huts must be booked in advance). You need to organize a transport to Te Anau Downs where the track starts; then a transport from Milford Sound where the track finishes. Transport can be easily booked as part of Milford Track booking via official DOC site. Castle Mount Waterfalls are approached on the second day of the journey, but there are other waterfalls which are accessible along Milford Track. Castle Mount Waterfalls is a series of unofficially named waterfalls, located a few minutes past the Pompolona Lodge. There is a spectacular view of the waterfalls from a bridge. A short unmarked track (just before the bridge) leads to the waterfall's base - a nice place to have a break if the weather permits. The waterfalls drop from Castle Mount, that's why we call them 'Castle Mount Waterfalls'. Refer to the panarama photo in our Gallery to see how many waterfalls are there during summer time. |
