Walking and driving instructions
This track is closed due to damage from Cyclone Gabrielle. The Cascades Falls is roughly a 40 minutes’ drive away from Auckland City. The road surface is sealed, apart from the last 2km which are a gravel road. From Auckland follow the road which leads to Bethells Beach. From Te Henga Rd turn left onto Falls Road, which leads to a carpark located at the end of Falls Rd. There are toilets and a well-maintained picnic area there. From the carpark follow an easy and well signposted Auckland City Walk until you see a sign 'Falls', where you need to turn onto a side track which climbs to the falls. The whole walk to the waterfall takes roughly 20-30 minutes. Return via the same track, or continue on to Auckland City Walk which is a loop walk and takes approximately the same time. There is a huge rock at the end of the track, which interferes with the view. Hence, to see the waterfall, you have to either climb on the rock or go into the water. The pool next to the waterfall is extremely popular among the locals, so if you’re planning to swim there, then wear proper shoes and bring a towel. Be very careful because the rock surface is always slippery. |
