Gates of Haast

Officially a series of rapids on the Haast River, Gates of Haast Falls is located in Mt Aspiring National Park, along HAAST Highway. It is a roadside waterfall which is seen from a car when crossing the river.

Walking and driving instructions

Gates of Haast Falls is roughly a 1-1.5 hours' drive away from Wanaka. The road surface is always sealed.

If you drive from Wanaka, take SH-6 (Haast Highway) and stay on it for 91km. There is a car park on Haast HW, right after the Gates of Haast bridge when driving towards Wanaka.
