Walking and driving instructions
Thunder Creek Falls is roughly a 1-1.5 hours' drive away from Wanaka. The road surface is always sealed. If you drive from Wanaka, take SH-6 (Haast Highway) and stay on it for 92km until you see a sign “Thunder Creek Falls” and a relatively large carpark. There are no facilities there. An easy 10-minutes' return Thunder Creek Falls Walk leads to the waterfall's viewing platform. The track is suitable for people of all abilities. The waterfall’s base is easily accessible as well. The top section of the waterfall is seen from the highway when you drive towards Wanaka (1-2minutes before you reach the official falls' car park). |
