Oakley Creek FallsOakley Creek Falls is the only waterfall located within the Auckland City area. It lies within the Oakley Creek Reserve, which follows the course of Great North Road and features one of the city’s last remaining natural streams—Oakley Creek, also known by its Māori name, Te Auaunga. Walking and driving instructions
Oakley Creek Falls is located about a 15-minute drive from Auckland City Centre, with sealed roads throughout the journey. From Auckland CBD, head west on SH16, then take Exit 8 and turn onto Great North Road heading south. The Oakley Creek Reserve will be on your left. Because the Great North Road is typically very busy and there is no parking available directly on the road, there are two recommended parking options:
After parking, cross Great North Road using the pedestrian crossing and follow the easy Oakley Creek Walkway to the waterfall lookout. It takes about 5 minutes to reach the base of the falls from the reserve entrance, and the entire Oakley Creek Walkway loop takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The ideal time to visit Oakley Creek Falls is following rain, since the waterfall tends to be less striking during dry spells.
