Walking and driving instructions

Dorothy Falls is roughly a 30-minutes’ drive away from Hokitika. The road surface is sealed, except for the last 4 km which is a gravel road. From Hokitika travel east on Lake Kaniere Rd for 18 km until you reach the lake. Here, turn left and follow the road along the lake for the next 6.8 km. A small car park is found at Dorothy Falls Rd (on the left) immediately past a bridge over the Dorothy creek. There are no facilities there. The falls is seen from the car park. A closer approach is possible. Despite the difficulty of taking a photo of the whole waterfall, the fall is very impressive and photogenic. The plunge pool is popular with swimmers in the summer! |
