Koropuku Falls
Koropuku FallsAbsolutely charming, Koropuku Falls is found in the western part of Catlins Conservation Park, along the scenic Chaslands Hwy. An un-official, more or less easy track leads to the waterfall’s base. It’s off the beaten track adventure, hugely recommended for photographers.

Walking and driving instructions
Koropuku Falls is roughly a 1.5-hours’ drive away from Invercargill or 2-hours from Dunedin. The road surface is always sealed. From Dunedin head south on the SH1, then in Balclutha turn left into the scenic Chaslands Highway and follow it for the next 80km. A small un-official car park, which is easy to miss, is found on your right. If you’ve got a GPS, enter the following parking coordinates into your device: S 46° 34' 43.0062" E 169° 13' 8.475"; otherwise watch for a small parking with a sign 'Koropuku Falls' (NOT a DOC sign). There are no facilities there. A more or less easy track starts from the parking and goes through the native forest. The tack is very well maintained. In 2-5 minutes from beginning of the walk, you cross a stream via a foot-bridge, then you walk along the stream up to the waterfall's base. The track is slippery after rain, so please be careful! At the end of the track you will need to climb over some rocks and this is the most difficult part of the track. There is a nice bench at the end of the track, which provides a fantastic view of the waterfall. Return via the same track. Total walking time is about 35-45 minutes. Many thanks to Wayne Allen and Peter Hill who maintains the track!!! |
