Walking and driving instructions
Acland Falls is roughly a 2-hours' drive away from Christchurch, or just a 25-minutes drive away from Geraldine. The road surface is sealed. From Geraldine travel north along SH-79 for 5km, slide left onto Inland Scenic Road (72) immediately after a bridge over the Orari River. Follow this road until you reach Arundel, then follow left onto Bridge St, then right onto Ferry Rd and follow it for the next 7.5km. Slide right onto Peel Forest Rd which becomes Rangitata Gorge Rd. Follow this road for the next 3.6km. There is a dedicated car park, to your right, with tracks' sign and picnic tables (no toilets). From the parking, cross the road and walk the track which leads to the base of the waterfall. It's more or less easy walking track, suitable for children. Return via the same route. Total walking time is 50 minutes. Acland Falls is a permanent waterfall (a gentle trickle most of the time as per the main photo), but best to visit is after decent rain. |
