Waitanguru Falls

Walking and driving instructions

Waitanguru Falls is roughly a 3.5-hours drive away from Auckland or 2.5-hours from New Plymouth. The road surface is always sealed.

If you drive from Auckland, take SH3, and when in Piopio turn right into Mangaotaki Rd. Follow the road for the next 21km (35-40min) until you see a small car park with a couple of tables for a picnic (no toilets).

An easy 15-minutes return walk leads to the waterfall’s viewing platform. The base of the waterfall is officially inaccessible. The track has some stairs hence it’s not accessible for wheelchairs/kids strollers.
