Omaru Falls

Omaru Falls

A classic curtain 45-meter waterfall, Omaru Falls is located in a rural area between Te Kuiti and National Park Village. Despite the fact that the waterfall's base is inaccessible, the falls itself is extremely impressive and included into New Zealand Must See Waterfall's list.

Walking and driving instructions

Omaru Falls is roughly a 3-hours drive away from Auckland or 30-minutes from Te Kuiti.

Follow SH4 and turn onto Omaru Rd as soon as you see a sign ‘Omaru Falls’. Follow this gravel road for the next 700m until you see a DOC sign. There is a small carpark at Omaru Rd without any facilities.

An easy 1-hour return Omaru Falls Walk leads to the waterfall’s upper lookout. The first part of the walk goes through the farmland (please respect a private property), while the second one is a bush walk with one suspension bridge over the river. At the end of the track, you will need to climb on the hill where the viewing platform is kindly provided by DOC. You will get incredible views from this platform. The way back to the carpark is a bit easier and faster.
