Walking and driving instructions

Waiotemarama Companion Falls is roughly a 15 minutes' drive away from Opononi or 2-2.5 hours' from Whangarei. The road surface is sealed, except for the last 6 km which is a gravel road.

From Opononi head east on the SH-12 for 2.5 km, then turn right into Waiotemarama Gorge Road which is a gravel one and follow it for the next 6.3 km until you reach a car park (on your left and has a DOC sign). There are no facilities there.

Waiotemarama Waterfall Loop Walk starts from the parking and leads to Waiotemarama Falls. A couple of minutes after starting the walk you'll see a small waterfall on the left-hand side, just before a bridge. Turn left to an unofficial track leading to the base of the waterfall and enjoy.

Continue the walk for 15 more minutes, and you will reach Waiotemarama Falls.

Note: this waterfall is located on a private land. Please contact Waiotemarama Falls Lodge if you want to visit the waterfall.
