Walking and driving instructions

Pungahuru Falls is roughly a 1-hour’ drive away from either Napier or Taupo. The road surface is always sealed.

From Taupo travel south on the SH-5 (towards Napier) for 85.5km. Turn right into McVicar Rd and follow it until you reach a gate (roughly in 1km). Don't forget to close it when you pass it. Follow the road for 700m until you reach a car park. There are no facilities there.

The waterfall is seen from the car park. Make your own way to get a better view of the waterfall.

The falls is located on the opposite river’s shore, hence using your own boat the falls’ base is reachable (unfortunately, we haven’t tried it ourselves).
