Walking and driving instructions
Lucas Creek Waterfall is roughly a 20 minutes' drive away from Auckland Center or 15 minutes' from Silverdale. The road surface is always sealed. From Auckland travel north on the SH-1 until you reach Albany exit (Albany Expy). Take Albany Expy exit, turn left and follow the highway for the next 3km. Just before the bridge over the Lucas Creek over the bridge, turn right onto Gills Rd. Park on a side of this road. There are no facilities there other than the park's entrance. From here, walk upstream along the creek for 5-10 minute until you reach the waterfall. Walks are available on the both sides of the creek. One more option to reach the waterfall: walk back to the bridge over the Lucas Creek (on the main highway). A footpath is to the left immediately past the bridge. The path descends to the creek and leads to the waterfall lookout. It takes only 2 minutes to reach the waterfall from the highway. Lookout has a nice bench where you can sit and enjoy the waterfall's beauty. Return via the same track, or if you wish you can walk one more minutes to the waterfall's top. This track is a concrete path which doesn't have any stairs; hence it's suitable for wheelchair and kids strollers. Best time to visit the waterfall - after a decent rain. For the best photos opportunity pick a cloudy day. |
