Wairere Waterfall is roughly a 5-minutes' drive away from Whakatane town center, or 1hr 20 minutes' from Rotorua, or 1hr 10 minutes' from Tauranga. The road surface is always sealed.

From Whakatane town center travel east along The Strand until you reach an intersection with Toroa St. Turn right onto Toroa St, the parking is to your right, 130m from begging of the road.

The waterfall is seen from the parking. There is a short and easy walking path leading to the viewing area from the parking.

You can, with care, come very close to the falling water. There are short cascades downstream from the main falls.

Return via the same route. Total walking time is 5 minutes.
