Walking and driving instructions
Cave Stream Waterfall is roughly a 1-hour 15-minute’ drive away from Christchurch or 1-hour 45-minutes’ from Greymouth. The road surface is always sealed. If you drive from either Christchurch or Greymouth, travel on the SH-73 until you reach Cave Stream Scenic Reserve car park (to your right if you drive from Christchurch, 2.9km past Castle Hill village). The parking is quite a big one, and has toilets and information boards. From the car park follow the well-established track which leads to the cave’s end (stream inlet). It is a pleasant 10-minutes downhill walk which brings you to the cave’s exit. From here you can see the top of the 3-meter waterfall. Please do not attempt to climb down the waterfall without proper gear and experience. Please refer to the DOC information boards (photo is in the gallery) if you wish to walk through the cave. It is recommended to start the journey from the cave’s entrance. Return via the same route (total walking time is 20 minutes). We highly recommend to walk to the cave‘s entrance (stream outlet) also. Do not forget a torch. |
