Walking and driving instructions
From 1 May 2018, the forested areas of the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park will be closed to prevent the spread of, and to protect against kauri dieback disease. Some tracks in the Hunua Ranges Regional Parks will also be closed. There is NO track to the waterfall itself. If you want to visit it, you'll need to organize a boat or use a kayak. Waterfall Bay Falls is roughly a 50-60 minutes' drive away from Auckland City. The road surface is sealed becoming unsealed after Little Huia. From Auckland travel southwest to Titirangi, here on round-about turn south into Huia Rd which becomes Whatipu Rd and follow it for the next 21 km. There is a car park on Whatipu Rd with a sign 'Omawanui Track'. There are no facilities there. You need to follow one of these tracks:
You'll need to climb to the hills. Make sure you have proper boots because the tracks can be slippery. The waterfall (on your left) is well observed from a distance. Unfortunately, there is no official track to the waterfall's base. |
