Lake Face Creek Falls
Lake Face Creek FallsUnofficially named, Lake Face Creek Falls is located on the eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu. There is no official track to the waterfall, and it's not marked on any local maps. However, there is an unofficial track leading to the waterfall' base which can be easily found, and the top of the waterfall is clearly visible from the road.

Walking and driving instructions
Lake Face Creek Falls is roughly a 40 minutes' drive away from Queenstown town center. The road surface is always sealed. From Queenstown travel north alongside Lake Wakatipu on Glenorchy-Queenstown Rd for 37 km. There is a small unofficial car park (on your right) immediately past a bridge over the Lake Face Creek (watch for a creek name sign). There are no facilities there. You can camp here on a self-contained vehicle, but only from 5pm to 8am. The waterfall consists of the upper leap (about 20-25m) and the lower cascades. The upper leap is seen from the road and from the parking. From the parking you can follow an unofficial walking track which leads to the lower cascades. It takes about 10-15 minutes to reach the falls. Return via the same track. UPDATE Aug 2017: the walk to the lower cascades was fenced since we visited it last time. So, most likely, the track goes through the private land. Please seek for owners permissions if you wish to visit the falls. |
