Walking and driving instructions

Anne's Falls is roughly a 45 minutes' drive away from Christchurch centre. The road surface is sealed.

From Christchurch head south on Dyers Pass Rd (towards Victoria Park) for roughly 6km. Then turn right onto Summit Rd (well signposted) and stay on it for the next 8.7km. There are two carparks at Omahu Bush (a few hundred meters away from Gibraltar Rock), and we recommend the second one. The carpark has a map, but no other facilities (no toilets).

You can also reach the carpark from the south - follow SH 75, then Dyers Pass Rd and then Summit Rd. No matter which way you choose, the road is quite narrow and winding (don't attempt to drive there with Caravan or on a large motorhome).

Anne's Falls is located in the middle of the loop track, so you can walk it in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. We believe (especially when it's muddy) that the anti-clockwise direction is a bit safer, but a bit longer. In dry conditions, it is faster to walk it clockwise. From the parking follow Kirks track, which descends to the stream, for approximately 40 minutes until you reach a tracks junction. Turn left onto Rhodes Track, and in roughly 10-15 minutes you will reach a bridge over the stream. You can see a first (lower) cascade from here. Cross the stream and you'll see a sign 'Waterfall. 3 minutes'. From here a side track brings you to the base of Anne's Falls. There is one more waterfall there (you'll see its top while walking the side track).

Return is via Rhodes Track. If you keen to have a break or lunch, we recommend to walk 5-7 min from the fall along the Rhodes track and you'll reach a nice sunny spot (at least it was not muddy when we walked the track). Rhodes track is a former road, which is very wet and muddy after rain, hence it's easier to walk it as an uphill section of this loop. Total walking time is 1.5-2 hours. Hiking shoes are must during winter.
