Walking and driving instructions
Bark Bay Falls is the easiest accessible waterfall in Abel Tasman National Park. There are two ways to get to the falls. 1. Take a water taxi from either Marahau, or Kaiteriteri, or Totaranui to Bark Bay. There are all sorts of facilities available at the bay, including picnic tables, drinking water and flushing toilets. From the drop off area walk along the main track towards Awaroa. After roughly 5 minutes of walking cross a stream via a foot bridge, then it is another 5 minutes of walk to a suspension bridge over the Waterfall Creek (signposted). You will see the waterfall from this bridge. A closer approach is possible via an unofficial path which is ease accessible just before the bridge (look to your left). Take extra care as the rocks might be slippery. Return via the same route (20 minutes total walking time), or via a sandy beach (similar walking time). 2. If you walk the whole Abel Tasman Great walk, or doing a day trip Awaroa to Bark Bay, the waterfall is found 10 minutes before (or after, if you walk towards Awaroa) the Bark Bay. You won’t miss it as it is seen from the main track. |
