Walking and driving instructions

Gunboat Creek Falls is roughly a 1hour 40minutes' drive away from Wanaka. The road surface is always sealed.

If you drive from Wanaka, head north-west on the SH-6 (Haast Highway) for 123km until you see a waterfall (to your left) on the Gunboat Creek. The bridge over the Gunboat Creek is signed ('Gunboat Creek'), and the best view of the waterfall is near this bridge.

There is neither official car park, nor other facilities there. With care, park your car on a side of the road and walk to the best view of the waterfall.

The waterfall is stunning after/during a rain. Best time to capture a photo - after heavy rain.
