Walking and driving instructions

Important! There used to be public access to the viewing point above the falls, but this is no longer considered safe. The entrance to the park is now closed with several warning signs and extra gates.

The Omanawa Falls reserve upgrade is currently in the design and consent stage, this will be followed by going out to tender for physical works. TCC hopes to have all works completed and the site open by summer 2019. (c) Tauranga City Council

Omanawa Falls is roughly a 30 minutes’ drive away from Tauranga. The road surface is always sealed.

From Tauranga travel east on SH-29 for 14 kilometers, then turn left into Omanawa Rd and follow it for the next 10.4 kilometers. The car park, on your left, has a sign "Omanawa Falls". There are no facilities there (no toilets).

A 30-minutes' return Omanawa Falls Track leads to the waterfall’s upper lookout. The walk, which goes through a bush, is quite easy and follows the old forestry road. The falls can be well observed from a viewing platform. Return via the same track.

The base of the waterfall is officially inaccessible, but there is an unofficial track which descends to the waterfall’s pool. We wouldn't recommend to use it. Please keep to the official track.
