Two waterfalls, Waipunga Falls (on the main photo) and Waiarua Falls (check the Gallery), are included into Must See New Zealand Waterfalls due to easy accessibility (visible from the car park) and charming views. The waterfalls are located on the Waipunga River, approximately halfway between Taupo and Napier.

Walking and driving instructions

 

Waipunga Falls is roughly a 1-hour drive away from either Taupo or Napier. The road surface is always sealed.

From Taupo follow State Highway 5 until you see a sign "Waipunga Falls", turn left onto a big carpark with no facilities there.

Please respect a private property and take all your rubbish with you!

Both Waipunga and Waiarua waterfalls are seen from the carpark. There is NO official track to the waterfall's base, so please enjoy the beauty from a distance.
