Walking and driving instructions

Carew Falls is roughly a 1 hour's drive away from either Greymouth or Hokitika. The road surface is sealed, apart from the last 5.8 km which is a gravel road.

From Hokitika travel north on the SH6, then turn right into the SH 73 and follow it for the next 7.5km, then turn left into Kumara-Inchbonnie Road which becomes a gravel road. Follow this road for 21km until you see a small carpark. There are no facilities there other than a track sign.

Carew Falls Track winds up through the forest and takes about 25-30 minutes to reach the waterfall's base. The last few meters of the track are quite slippery and require an attention. Children must be supervised.

The way back to the parking is much faster and takes just 15 minutes. The official sign says '1 hour return' but even with kids you can do it faster than 1 hour.
