Walking and driving instructions
Nicols Creek Falls is roughly a 10 minutes' drive away from Dunedin City Centre. The road surface is always sealed. From Dunedin center travel north on the SH-1. Turn left into Duke St which becomes Malvern St, and finally becomes Leith Valley Rd. There is a small, roughly 2-vehicles, car park at Leith Valley Rd, 350m after the intersection with Malvern St, just before a bridge. No toilets, nor picnic area. There is a sign 'Waterfall walk' just before the gate at the track entrance. Follow the historic track for 200-300m; then you'll see a sign 'Waterfall' and you'll need to turn left. Climb to the hill for 10-15 minutes; then you'll approach the waterfall. The track can be slippery and muddy, so be prepared for it. Kids must always be supervised. The waterfall itself isn't much impressive, but the walk is enjoyable. The waterfall must be spectacular after rain. |
