Walking and driving instructions

Ohau Falls is roughly a 20-minutes drive away from Kaikoura or 1.5 hours from Blenheim. The road surface is always sealed.

From Kaikoura take State Hwy 1 for 26km, then park your car on the left side of the road where you find a small car park and a sign 'Ohau Falls'. There are no any facilities there.

It takes just 10 minutes to reach the waterfall’s base. The walk is very easy and suitable for the people with all abilities. The waterfall is a very popular place because seal pups travel up the creek and stay in the waterfall's pool.

Note: due to a strong earthquake (14 Nov 2016) the falls could be destroyed. We will update this article as soon as we have more information.

Kaikoura - few places in the world can boast of such natural wonders as those offered by land and sea in Kaikoura. The seaside settlement is the most northern district in the Canterbury region located on the east coast of the South Island (an ideal location for both north and south bound travelers). 2.5 hours drive from Christchurch, 1.5 hours from Blenheim and only 2 hours from Picton - the gateway to the North Island.
