Walking and driving instructions

Hamilton Gardens Waterfall is roughly a 10-minutes’ drive away from Hamilton City Centre, or 1.5-2 hours’ from Auckland. The road surface is always sealed.

From Auckland head south on the SH-1 until you reach Hamilton. In Hamilton keep to SH-1, cross the Waikato River, then you’ll the Botanic Gardens on your right. Follow the SH-1 for one more km, then on round-about turn right to the ‘Gate 1’ entrance and follow the signs until you reach the official parking (roughly 500m). There is a huge parking area with additional parking available on the grass. Toilets, cafe, and picnic tables are available in the Botanic Gardens.

Follow the walk-path around the lake and, in the middle of the walk, you'll see the waterfall. From here, you can either continue on to the walk, or return.

The best colorful photos can be taken during late autumn or early winter.
