Madonna FallsA roadside waterfall, Madonna Falls is found along the State Highway 4. Actually, there are two waterfalls, which are not impressive but VERY easy accessible and sacred for Kiwi's. The legend says that a boy saw the image of the Madonna in the falls so many people are taking water from this waterfall now.

Madonna Falls is roughly a 3-hours drive away from Auckland or 20-minutes from Te Kuiti. The road surface is always sealed. From Te Kuiti travel south on the SH-3, then turn left onto the SH-4 and stay on it for the next 13.5 km. A well signposted car park is located on the SH-4 (on your right) just before a bridge. There are no facilities there. The waterfall is seen from the car park, but a closer approach is possible. Many people take the water from the falls, and there is a special pipe to make it easier. Don't miss the second waterfall - it's located a couple of meters to the right. Both waterfalls are tiny and not much impressive; however, they have their own charm and attract lots of people. |
