Walking and driving instructions

Te Wairoa Falls is roughly a 25 minutes' drive away from Rotorua. The road surface is always sealed.

From Rotorua head north-east on the SH-30, then on a roundabout turn right into Tarawera Rd (has a sign 'Buried Village) and follow it for the next 12 km until you reach a huge car park which belongs to the Buried Village. Leave your can here and go to the office.

You MUST buy a ticket at the Buried Village Office if you want to visit this waterfall (26-32.5 NZD per person):

Buried Village 1180 Tarawera Road, RD 5 Rotorua 3076, New Zealand. Phone/Fax: +64 7 362 8287

A walking 40-minutes return track starts from the office, goes through historic Buried Village and leads to the waterfall's lookout. The track isn't difficult and doesn't require any climbings or river crossing, but have some stairs, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Return via the same track, or you can walk it as a loop.
